Roses of Relief is a program created here at the Beta Beta chapter by our charter class which continues to be implemented once monthly. We provide the local Potsdam community with basic household supplies free of charge, we also sometimes have clothes and toys also available.
The local families of Potsdam who participate in this program are very grateful for the relief we provide, many rely on this program to help them acquire some day to day necessities. We just had our 2nd year anniversary of the Roses of Relief local initiative, there has been a growth in the number of families who participate and we plan to continue this program.
In Fall 2012, Kappa Delta Chi's Alpha Class held their local Philanthropy project called Penguin Pick Up. Inviting other Greek and community service organizations we cleaned the streets of Potsdam ridding it of trash. In an attempt to make our small town more beautiful we gained a sense of community and achievement recognized by the Mayor of Potsdam in a letter sent to the Chapter the following week.
The Gamma class new member project of Fall 2013 was a knit-a-thon, knitting for the Red Scarf Project hosted by the Foster Care to Success foundation. This is a program that donates the scarves to young adults who have aged out of the foster care system and are in need of help adjusting to college life.
This small token means a great deal to those students who need a little comfort. Many sisters plan to continue to donate homemade scarves to this project yearly, and you can too! The link below is to the Red Scarf Project's page.
The Delta class is our current new member class, they have just completed service work for the local Potsdam Humane Society. They spent time being trained to work with dogs, spent several hours bathing the dogs and for their service project they held an event to bake homemade dog biscuits to donate to the Humane Society.
